Rooted in Legacy: the Story Behind Purple Pastures

Some businesses begin with a business plan.

Ours began with a dream.

More than 25 years ago, my dad planted the first lavender plants here as a retirement project. What started as a simple idea—working the land, growing something beautiful, creating a peaceful life—quite literally blossomed into something far bigger than any of us imagined.

Over the years, Purple Pastures Lavender Farm grew from a small family venture into a brand carried in stores across the country. But at its heart, it has always remained deeply personal.

This land tells our family’s story.

Perched on a hill overlooking the rolling landscape of Steinbeck country, our farm has been part of our family history since the 1980s. Long before lavender fields lined the property, these hills were home to family gatherings, hard work, dreams, and memories that shaped who we are.

When my dad passed away, there was a season where I wasn’t sure what the future of the farm would look like. But in 2017, we chose to begin a new chapter.

We rebranded the company.

Built a new website.

And I moved to the farm full time.

Not because it was the easiest path—but because some legacies are worth carrying forward.

Today, Purple Pastures is still rooted in the same values it was founded on: hard work, family, faith, beauty, and a deep respect for the land. Every lavender bundle, sachet, candle, and product we create carries a little piece of that story.

This blog will be a place where we share more of life here on the farm—the beauty, the chaos, the lessons, the dirt, the growth, and the everyday moments behind the brand.

We’re so glad you’re here.
